The Section for Women in Public Administration (SWPA) invites you to join a growing number of women and men who work together on programs and initiatives promoting participation and recognition of women in all areas and at all levels of the public sector.
Note: To join SWPA, you first need to be a member of ASPA. If you have not yet joined ASPA, please visit the ASPA website. Be sure to select the SWPA membership too!
Visibility and Participation: The number of SWPA presenters at the National Conference increases every year.
Networking: SWPA offers networking through working together on SWPA committees, participating in SWPA activities at the ASPA National Conference, regional meetings as well as ASPA chapter and section programs. Look for opportunities to connect over social media, at the national awards breakfast, the annual meeting, and our annual social.
SWPA Scholarships: SWPA offers annual scholarships to different members to attend the ASPA National Conference. SWPA has been the leader in awarding scholarships to young and emerging professionals to interact with national leaders in public administration.
SWPA National Awards: The SWPA National Awards program honors four outstanding contributors to the field of Public Administration at its Annual National Awards Breakfast.
How can you get involved in SWPA? Join a committee, lead a committee, or join our board!
SWPA has several committees to support the work of SWPA and it's members. Committees focus on membership support, communications, and events like the annual breakfast or professional development opportunities.
Committee members serve 1-2 hours per month and can join committees based on your skills or interests. Interested committee members are also eligible to chair one of the SWPA committees.
SWPA has a fifteen-member board focused on advising the executive committee and working to advance SWPA's impact and engagement opportunities for members. Board members serve 2-3 hours per month, including their assigned committee work. There are annual elections to join the SWPA board.
SWPA is led by a a four-person executive committee who works with the board while maintaining stewardship over the financial and digital resources of SWPA. Executive members serve 3-4 hours per month, including their assigned committee work. There are annual elections to join the SWPA executive committee.
